July 2010
This October I will host two workshops. They will be at my studio and limited to 6 people each workshop. The fee is $300 and each workshop is four days. Two days will be in studio and two days will be plein aire. The workshops are
Oct 4 –7 and Oct 11 –14. My studio is in La Cienega, 12 miles south of Santa Fe, NM. Please call me if you're interested or have questions: (505) 474-4434. My email is above: "Contact Us"
Gail juried five paintings into Masterworks. My favorite, a pen and ink didn't win anything, but if she doesn't sell it she promised me I could keep it. I win either way. The other four miniatures were a series called: "Smashed in Santa Fe" They really worked out well.
September 2009
This September I juried into the PSA Annual Exhibit and actually won an award – my third! This means that I am now a Master Pastellist in the Pastel Society of America. We are VERY happy!
The other good news is that we will be one of two Artists in Residence at Grand Canyon National Park in 2010. We will be there for three weeks, probably in August or September. We will be staying at the North Rim. We are VERY happy again! It sure has been a good month.
August 2009
I've just learned that three of my paintings were finalists in the Artists Magazine annual art competition. (they're shown on the right hand column) While these three images won't be published as in 2003 when I was awarded an Honorable Mention in this same competition, it's a nice validation about consistently good work. Thank You Artist's Magazine!
July 2009
Gee, It's been awhile. I've had to rebuild my web site. I originally built it in GoLive, but that software is going away. This new site, while quite simple is in Dreamweaver. It should be faster to load and in the future, I'll be able to really do some nice things as I learn more about the software. Since I'm not excited about learning new software, this has taken some time – hence the delay.
The big news: I will be the Juror for Landscape for the Pastel Journal Top 100 in 2010. This should really be interesting! I'm looking forward to it.
All the rest: IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies Bi-Annual Convention) was good to us. We were privileged to demo for Great American Pastels and we sold the demo. Great American is also releasing my Southwest Selection in a new wooden box assortment with an all new cover design. We also juried into IAPS show at the Ventana Gallery and sold that piece as well. Masterworks was a success. We won peoples choice (for the third time since 2006) and sold two pieces. A third painting sold after the show. Our group show at Weems Gallery worked out really well, selling 13 paintings.
December 2008
It's been a good year. If things keep going like they have been, next year will be even better. We have scheduled two workshops in Taos this summer and fall. We will have a show at Weems in February and at least one demo/seminar at Santa Fe Art Expo. I would like to do one more workshop out of state in "09, so If you hear of anything, let me know. Because of other commitments, I haven't decided on my annual In-Studio workshop in October. As soon as I know something, I'll post it. The best news will come in about two months (hopefully sooner) so stay tuned!
From Paul: I would also like to acknowledge my wife, Gail, who has been my constant "horn tooter", cheering squad, proof reader, errand runner, art mule, and gentle critic during my journey down this bumpy art road. This wouldn't have been easy without her kind and constant support. Gail's own gift to the world is making our Christmas cards every year. They are really good! Thanks, Sweetie!
